  1. There is no way to link a slideshow that I can find so I have e-mailed you my groups' project. I also tried to add the slideshow to my blog, but could not find that as an option in the gadgets. Please let me know if you have a better idea. Thank you!

  3. Our group has designed "how-to" guides for getting started with RSS and Social Bookmarking. The guides have screenshots and are easy to follow. These guides are intended to help those who have little knowledge on these two subjects.

States of Matter (Solids, Liquids, Gasses)

    3/14/11-3/17-11

    Day 1:

Start by telling students that everything is made up of matter. Go on to explain that matter is anything that takes up space.

Write on the board the three states of matter; solids, liquids, and gases. Tell students that to further introduce matter and its three states, you will watch a brainpop.jr video and discuss that video with the remaining time.

    Day 2:

Today we are going to discuss one of the three states of matter: solids. Go on to explain the characteristics of solid matter.

    It has a definite shape.
    It has a definite mass.
    It has a definite volume.
This means that a solid will always look the same, take up the same amount of space, and have the same amount of molecules in it. Show students examples of solids. (banana, eraser, file cabinet, etc.) Have students give other examples of solids and have them explain how they know that their object is a solid.
SW share the websites they have bookmarked and add the given websites to their list if they have not done so already.

    Day 3:

Today we are going to discuss another of the three states of matter: liquids. Explain the characteristics of liquid matter. Further explain that it does not have a definite shape. Further explain that because it does not have a definite shape, it takes on the shape of its container.

    It has a definite mass

    It has a definite volume

Show students examples of liquids. (water, soda, juice, paint, etc.) Have students give other examples of liquids and have them explain how they know that their object is a liquid.

SW use their bookmarked websites to look up information and present facts.

    Day 4:

Today we are going to discuss the last of the three states of matter: gases. Explain the characteristics of gases.

It does not have a definite shape.

It does not have a definite mass.

It does not have a definite volume.

Further explain that this means that a gas does not always take up the same amount of space, nor does it weigh the same all the time. Like liquids, gases take the shape of their containers. However, they will fill the space they are given. That is why they don't always take up the same amount of space!!

Give students examples of gases. (the sun is made up of many gases, smoke from a fire, water vapor in clouds, etc.) See is students can think of any more examples of gases.
